Boosting rice and maize supply chains through innovative e-market and financial services to smallholder farmers in Benin (BoMeF)
Africa Green Corporation SA (Green SA)

Project Summary

BoMeF-AGriDI project targets rice and maize supply chains as the major sources of staple food in Benin through the introduction of mobile platform, technologies and services to boost economic actors’ like smallholder farmers, seeders, traders and processors performances. The platform collects market data and provides individual/local market updates (inputs and outputs).

The platform will also produce spoken messages for users that cannot read. As only 33% of the population uses the internet (and the majority is located in urban areas), the project will combine the sending of information to simple phones through the A-H SIM platform and the development of a mobile application that can be accessed for free on Playstore with smartphones. The platform will be designed to share information with farmers with one easy-to-use interface, and backed up with a team for help and assistance.

During BoMeF-AGriDI project, market information service will be provided to 7.000 economics actors in rice and maize value chain in the targeted areas. Emphasis is to reach women and youth, to increase their role in the family farm.
